Simple tricks for snuggly spaces

As the winter months bring darker nights and a drop in temperature, there’s nothing better than cosying up in a snug, warm home.

Making small changes like adding some soft and tactile textures or choosing warm colours for your décor can have a big impact on the feeling of a space, making it seem warmer without having to turn the heating up. Here are our top five ways to create an inviting home that everyone wants to spend time in this winter.

Pile on the texture

Layering soft furnishings are great for creating instant warmth and a cosy atmosphere.

Go for a mix of throws in chunky knit, faux-fur and felted fabrics to curl up in.

For an even more coordinated finish, choose cushions in the same fabric or one that colour matches your window dressing to create a finish that subtly flows through your whole room. All our curtain and Roman blind fabrics are available as cushion covers so you’ll be sure to find the perfect match.

Warm colours for a warm feeling

Warm colours have the ability to lift the level of cosiness in any room, so go for a palette that’s soft and natural to create that snug, inviting feel.

The fabrics in our Calm Living collection of curtains and Roman blinds come in a range of neutral hues to help you create restful and restorative spaces throughout your home. With the option to add one of our specialist thermal or blackout linings they will also help keep a room cosy and warm.

Light it right

While nothing beats the warmth of natural lighting, adding string lights, table lamps, and even candles can make a space feel more relaxing.

Create a softer, more intimate feel by switching off the ceiling light and instead opting for lower level lighting, illuminating quiet corners and creating shadowy textures.

Add warmth with wood

Weaving wooden elements throughout your décor can instantly warm up a space. Creating a down-to-earth and natural feel, wood furniture like a dresser or coffee table, wood shelving or accents like bowls, pedestals and trays will add depth to your room and bring a sense of the natural world into your home.

You can even take wood to your windows with our range of Wooden blinds. Constructed using real wooden slats in warm tones, they’re perfect for creating spaces that feel naturally warm and welcoming.

Keep draughts at bay

Once you’ve created your perfect snug space, the last thing you want is the cold winter air creeping in through your windows and doors.

Shutters can help make sure your space stays wonderfully warm. Their excellent insulating properties provide a barrier at your window to keep the cold out and the warmth in.

Curtains with a thermal lining also help to reduce heat loss through your windows. They are extra-heavy, making a great defence against the chills of winter while giving your curtains a fuller, more luxurious look.
