Day and Night blinds bring together the qualities of both Roller blinds and Venetian blinds. They are made up of sheer and opaque panels that pass across each other to create flexible light control at the window. The lightweight fabric and technical nature of Day and Night blinds (sometimes called zebra blinds) requires careful treatment when it comes to cleaning. Let us talk you through it.
Here you’ll learn:
- How to keep your Day and Night blind dust free
- How to remove marks or stains with a damp cloth or sponge
- Tips for getting the best results and cleaning methods to avoid
Our video guide has plenty of advice on the cleaning process, from choosing the right cleaning methods to using the right technique. Take a look to learn more.
The simplest way to clean Day and Night blind is to gently wipe the surface of the blind with a lint free cloth or feather duster.
Unlike a Roller blind where only the front surface of the fabric is visible, Day and Night blinds consist of two layers of delicate fabric that are revealed in sections, depending whether your blind is open or closed.
To make sure the entire shade is cleaned, dust the first section at the front of the blind at the bottom, and then the back at the top. Then turn the sidewinder control to reveal the next section and repeat this process until you have completed a full rotation of the blind.
Focus on areas that are most likely to collect dust – the headrail, edges, and bottom of the blind where it meets the windowsill.
Never use a vacuum cleaner, even the brush attachment, to remove dust from your Day and Night blinds as the suction can cause damage or fraying to the fabric.
We also do not recommend cleaning Day and night blinds with a steam cleaner, as this could damage the delicate fabric.
For tougher marks and stains, you can use a damp sponge or cloth dipped in lukewarm water.
Make sure you squeeze any excess water from the sponge and wipe gently so you don’t damage the delicate structure of the material.
Once the stain has lifted, keep your blind fully extended so it can dry naturally before pulling it all the way up.
Don’t forget to give the mechanical parts of your blinds some TLC too.
A little silicone spray will help keep the operating chain squeaky clean and remove any resistance or stiffness. Remember to follow the manufacturer instructions and be careful not to spray onto the fabric to avoid discolouration.
