    Layered transformation

    Lucie

"Our advisor Craig was amazing, he was super knowledgeable, listened to my dilemma, gave me several options to choose from and was genuinely excited about how we were going to transform the room. On top of that he said ‘why don’t we motorise it’ to which I didn’t even know was possible, but that’s what I’ve ended up with."

    Creating cosy spaces

    Bea Taylor

"I draw a lot in the kitchen so I wanted something that could control the light. If it’s a very bright day I wanted something that would be a bit softer and more diffused. My advisor, Ben, was lovely, and from day one he was really concise, he made things really clear, he explained everything! The whole process was really straight forward."

    Questions about your electric blinds?

Take a look at our easy to follow advice to help you get the most from them.

    Electric blinds FAQs

Here are our most popular questions about electric blinds. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, see all of our FAQs here.

    How do electric blinds work?

Electric blinds are powered by a small motorised unit that allows you to effortlessly open and close your blinds with a remote control. This is very convenient if you have several blinds as one remote can control them all. We recommend one charger for every three blinds and one remote for every five blinds.

These small motorised units can also be recycled, rather than thrown away. Discover more about Electronic and Electrical recycling.
What is the difference between electric blinds and smart blinds?

The main difference between electric blinds and sdokmart blinds is the control method. Electric blinds without the addition of smart technology can be opened or closed with the push of a button on a remote control, or a wall switch.

If you want to make your electric blinds smart, you'll need a Somfy Smart Hub. This makes them compatible with various smart devices and voice activated systems like your Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. You'll be able to set timers and create custom scenes and routines to suit your lifestyle, including different schedules for weekdays and weekends. You can even operate Smart blinds when you're away from home, simply using an app on your phone.

    How to install electric blinds

Your local advisor will install your Electric blinds for you, so you don’t need to worry. An installation appointment will be booked following your initial consultation.

    Are electric blinds expensive?

The cost of motorised blinds will depend on the quantity, the style of your blinds, how large your windows are and the fabric you've chosen. You’ll be provided with a no-obligation quote at your free in-home consultation.

    What blinds can be motorised?

Currently, Roman, Roller and Day & Night blinds, Wooden, Pleated conservatory roof blinds, and Pleated blinds for Skylight windows can all be motorised with Hillarys.

Can I have an electric Skylight blind?

Yes, if you choose a Pleated blind for your skylight window, you can operate it at a touch of a button for extra convenience. Your local advisor will give you expert advice regarding your electric Skylight window blind at your in-home appointment.

Can I have electric blinds in my bathroom or kitchen?

Bathrooms and kitchens are typically more humid and moist than other rooms in your home so it's important to choose blinds that are specifically designed for wet environments and have moisture-resistant qualities. Your local advisor will be able to talk you through your options.

What we say about electric blinds

    Great for...
    • Windows that are out of reach or that are difficult to access or operate manually
    • Large windows or doors with more than one blind, for example a bay or bifold – one remote controls them all
    • A neat solution with no hanging cords or chains – a child friendly option
    • A convenient solution for bedrooms, choose blackout options to maximise light reduction
    Things to consider...
    • Both the motor and the remote control are battery operated but require mains power for recharging
    • Electric blinds may not be suitable for bathroomskitchens or areas with high levels of moisture or humidity
